About the School
Senior High School at Sakado, University of Tsukuba (UTSS), is Japan’s first "Integrated Course" high school, pioneering educational reform and research. As an IB World School, UTSS offers the dual-language Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Japanese and English, expanding learning opportunities for students. The school, which is a state-affiliated, co-educational day school, serves approximately 480 students aged 15-18 years. It is an Article One affiliated high school of the University of Tsukuba, located in Sakado, Saitama, about an hour from central Tokyo via the Tobu Tojo line. The school is led by Headmaster Dr. Toshiharu Enomae, with Regina Ver-Santos as the IB Diploma Coordinator.

In the IBDP, students undergo a three-year program, starting with pre-DP courses in Year 1, followed by Years 2 and 3 covering six subject groups. The subjects are taught in both Japanese and English, with core components such as CAS, EE, and TOK supervised in Japanese, though students can opt to write their Extended Essay in English.

UTSS emphasizes international education through overseas study trips, foreign student exchanges, research projects, and volunteer work. These activities complement core subjects and foster critical thinking, multilingual proficiency, and global awareness.
